EN 1090 Standards
The condition for marketing steel and aluminium structures in the European Union is conformity to the standards EN 1090. The EN 1090 standards are European standards that regulate the fabrication and assembly of steel and aluminium structures and are recognized by the Construction Products Regulation (CPR). EN 1090 replaced the nationally applicable regulations, e.g. in Germany DIN 18800-7 and DIN V 4113-3.

EN 1090 comprises three parts:
EN 1090-1: Requirements for conformity assessment for structural components (CE-Marking)
EN 1090-2: Technical requirements for the execution of steel structures
EN 1090-3: Technical requirements for the execution of aluminium structures.

A fundamental prerequisite for the CE-labelling of steel or aluminium construction firms is a certificated “Factory Production Control” (FPC), which ensures that the products have been designed, developed, constructed, purchased, produced and assembled on the building sites in a quality assured way with regard to the respective standards and regulations.

What is the aim of the directive?
The aim of the directive is to harmonise the safety performance of construction products and facilitate the free movement of goods across the EU. They apply to anything placed on the market, whether imported or manufactured in the EU. The CPR defines six principles for materials that are to be used in civil engineering:

1. Mechanical resistance & stability
2. Safety in case of fire
3. Hygiene, health & the environment
4. Safety in use
5. Protection against noise
6. Energy economy & heat retention.

As of July 1st 2014 any “series” manufactured structural metal components or kits that have been either made in the EU or imported, and to which a harmonised European standard applies, must comply with the CPR (Construction Product Regulation) & CE marking requirements.

LITEC’s procedure
LITEC has already obtained the certificate of conformity of the factory production control from the notified body Tecno Piemonte Spa for its aluminium structures in compliance with EN 1090-1.
