LITEC: Kinesys Distributor for Italy

UK based automation specialist Kinesys announces the appointment of trussing manufacturer LITEC as its Italian distributor.

Litec is part of the Vitec Group which also includes companies such as Brilliant Stages and Manfrotto. The company is also master distributor of Columbus McKinnon so Kinesys felt this was exactly the right company and product mix to complement a premium automation product.

Sales & Business Development Manager Mark de Gruyter explains, "Litec is a highly respected company with a great contact base and a real knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the live production and performance industry" says de Gruyter, "So we are well matched partners". This consolidates the growth potential and increasing interest in Kinesys products worldwide, with Europe a key territory in the expansion strategy to make Kinesys' innovative automation systems and new technologies available and accessible to a greater range of buyers and users.

The concept of 'automation' and the creative and practical values that it can bring to any production is no longer the preserve only of those with massive budgets! With Kinesys’ modular and flexible product philosophy, it is now much easier and affordable for companies and shows of all budget sizes to add an element of precision automation to their designs and inventories.

Italy, with its proliferation of live events and passion for music, theatre, art and performance of all types has already shown plenty of interest in Kinesys. This has been both amongst rental companies and for fixed installations and venues.

As soon as the deal was sealed, de Gruyter and Kinesys' Dave Weatherhead travelled to Mogliano Veneto near Venice to meet the full Litec team and undertake two days of comprehensive staff technical training. Litec have bought a substantial amount of Kinesys stock which was set up in the demo room for hands-on access. Recently hired Andy Hicks, joining Kinesys specifically for technical support and training duties to support the expanding Kinesys distribution network, was also in attendance.

In addition to this, Litec also held two Kinesys Open Days, which was a continuation of the product demonstration featuring in-depth technical sessions for their clients, customers and contacts. This was exceedingly well attended by a wide selection of individuals and companies from all across the country, including leading riggers, rental operations, theatres, live music and multi-purpose venues, reflecting the general enthusiasm for the products.

The first sale was also announced via the new distributor - with rental company Musical Box investing in a 16-way Kinesys Libra Load Cell system.

Paolo Dozzo, Sales Director EMEA, adds: “For more than a decade Litec has been the leading company of the trussing and rigging products in Italy. Kinesys is a further added value that completes our offer to all professionals of this market and the lighting world. The new applicative dimension of Kinesys products opens infinite possibilities of creation and management of dynamic events in theatres, TV studios, concerts, presentations and installations. We are very happy of this partnership because it will complement all our products perfectly.”

The Auditorium dei Teatini

For the Auditorium dei Teatini in Piacenza LITEC has supplied structures made up of FX30S, QX30S and QD30S trusses.

The Auditorium dei Teatini is the result of a masterly restoration work and the use of the most advanced technological solutions. The former St Vincent’s church, located in the very heart of the historical city, has regained the original splendour due to the recovery of the frescoes and the existing wooden artworks – choir, organ case, sedan chairs – and the renovation of the rooms that hosted the sacristy.

Technology allowed to convert this building originally thought for worship into a vanguard auditorium, comfortable and well equipped with high-level acoustics. This space has become a permanent rehearsal hall of the Orchestra Giovanile ''Luigi Cherubini'' conducted by the Director Riccardo Muti. Beside this prestigious function, the hall is going to host small theatre shows and chamber music concerts as well as conferences, debates, literary presentations and various meetings.

For the development of the Auditorium, LITEC structures were used to support sound and lighting equipment and let roofing sheets slide on special guides. LITEC systems were placed in two areas: the first of 15x15x7.5(h) m dimensions stands frontally close to the altar, and the latter of 16x10x7.5(h) m measures lies at the back of the Auditorium.

QD30S trusses were installed at the upper part of the structures in combination with QX30K8 Dado for the creation of corners; FX30S trusses were placed frontally and coupled with FX30K4 Dado for square and flat

section structures; and finally QX30S trusses were used to build up towers.

FX30S and QX30S belong to the Standard Series, which stands out for its design, durability and reliability. It is the best-known and most widely-used range of trusses with end plates designed by Litec. Strengthened by a dual connection system of spigots or bolts, the Standard range has become a benchmark for the installations sector. QD30S is a truss of the Heavy Duty family of products, the most solid product line within our General Purpose range. Same dimensions and dual spigot/bolt connection system as the Standard series, but more robust thanks to the use of scaled-up components suitable for demanding usage. The perfect compromise between load capacity and practicality.

Qatar’s National Day

TechnoPro has just supplied relevant LITEC equipment to the committee that organised Qatar’s National Day. TechnoPro, LITEC distributor for the Middle East, is a Dubai based company, well known in event production, equipment rentals and sales.

National Day or Founder's day is a relatively new holiday in Qatar, first celebrated in 2007. The third edition took place just before Christmas and included events such as fireworks, cultural programmes like camel dressage, poetry sessions and plays, and re-enactments of historical events. One of the most important shows was the horse race in Shahaniya. The race was held on the most important day, that is Friday 18th December, on the ancient Qatari desert routes whereby pairs of riders challenged each other in a test of courage, with the winning rider moving to the next round. This proved the qualities of Arabian horses and the talent of Qatari riders.

For the 6-day show TechnoPro installed four structures in RL76A and Maxitower MT52 to support LD screens used for the live broadcast in several locations. RL76A is a High Load aluminium truss with 76x52cm sides, connected with forks. The symmetrical design of the diagonals makes it twist resistant and suitable for large spans.

MT 52 is ideal for lifting where high performance is needed. This system uses twist-resistant vertical 52cm components, and comes complete with stabilization, motor coupling, hanging and safety accessories.

For the main event, the horse race, TechnoPro also set up 26 towers, X30 and D30 Flyintowers, to rig audio system used for the parade. X30/D30 Flyintowers are support towers for audio systems consisting of a QX30S or QD30S structure, suitable for lifting loads of up to 600 kg to a height of 9.5 metres. To lift the loads, anchoring is provided for an electric chain hoist. Alternatively they may be lifted manually by adding a cable winch device.

The event was very successful thanks to the LITEC equipment as well. It managed to celebrate Qatar's heritage and encourage a strong sense of patriotism.

Zoppas Arena & 105 Stadium Rimini

LITEC ha recently supplied its trusses for two important semi-permanent set-ups at Zoppas Arena in Conegliano, Treviso, and 105 Stadium in Rimini.

Zoppas Arena, the biggest indoor stadium in Conegliano, is owned by the Town Council. Besides hosting the domestic matches of the local volleyball team Spes Volley Conegliano, it is the venue of many music and cultural events, often organised by Zed Live. Its construction began in 1993 thanks to an economic contribution allocated on the occasion of the Football World Championship Cup Italia 90. The building was left unfinished for 15 years, and only some months ago it was finally completed and opened to the public.

In Zoppas Arena a system in Libera FL76 was installed, consisting of 4 minigrids (two with 5x8m dimensions and two with 5x10m dimensions) with different modules to guarantee higher load capacity and distribution of suspension points. Thanks to this system configuration, sound and lighting equipment can be applied onto many points on the grid. The system is hung to the ceiling through the use of LITEC standard hooks C061. The connection of trusses is in turn made with forks.

105 Stadium in Rimini is a flexible and functional facility that can host different type events such as meetings, conventions, exhibitions, competitions, shows, theatre events, concerts, and sports activities. It is a modular space able to hold up to 7,000 people maintaining excellent conditions of use and offering first-rate set output. 105 Stadium is run by Stadium srl, a company made of professionals specialised in the management of polifunctional spaces as well as in the organisation of events.

Also for this plant, with the cooperation of Teyco, was supplied a structure in Libera FL76 though with different features from the previous one. Here it consists of one 18x14m grid, divisible in three smaller grids, and of two 4x2m side minigrids as wings. The connection of trusses is made through 4-way connecting elements FL76CS04, which are a quicker assembly system. The suspension points of the grids are carried out with the eye coupler C400LCS04.

For further information you can visit the websites http://www.zoppasarena.it e www.stadiumrimini.net

HSL for Swedish House Mafia

HSL supplied lighting and video equipment plus crew, and designed a bespoke DJ booth for two recent sold-out incendiary performances by The Swedish House Mafia at London's Brixton Academy. The shows were presented and produced by Cream and Loudsound Events and HSL was working for technical co-ordinators, BPM, who also supplied pyro and lasers.

SHM Management's Amy Thomson's brief to BPM was to have the ‘biggest and best' show possible. BPM worked closely with HSL to design a full show based on a four section lighting rig, action-packed with strobe pods, moving heads, specialist LED products and three large video wall sections.

These high-energy-high profile performances underline the current trend for dance events to up the ante in terms of production values and show presentation, taking it to new levels. For HSL, this follows on from work for BPM in the summer, also for the Swedish House Mafia and other artists.

HSL's Mike Docksey project managed for the Blackburn-based company, working closely with BPM's Adam Murray. The results were stunning! The DJ booth was a custom construction made from Litec QX30 trussing, based on 2 x 5 metre diameter half circles top and bottom. HSL utilised 40 CK Accent video tubes for the front fascia, chosen for its smooth and seamless diffused surfaces. On the back corners of the booth were PAR 46 fuzz lights - a powerful contemporary take on a disco classic effect! Five trusses were rigged by the HSL crew in the Academy - a 16 x 12 metre box was flown above the audience, onto which was rigged an eclectic collection of mirror balls, mirrored mannequins and other scenic pieces.

In addition to this, there was a front truss, downstage and mid-stage curved trusses made from two halves of a 10 metre diameter circle and an upstage truss. The back truss supported 70 panels of ColorWeb 250 to dress the upstage area, and also flew the left and right video screens. The mid truss was used to fly the centre screen. Lighting fixtures were scattered across all the trusses. The 40 Atomic strobes were built into a total of 14 custom pods with either two or four Atomics per pod. The pods, flanked with two PixelLine 1044s on each, were rigged below the trusses at varying heights to create a light-wall effect.

The show proved a hugely exciting amalgamation of visual talents and technologies that fuelled the amazing two nights of performances from Swedish House Mafia (Steve Angello, Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso).
